The airlines paid me to go shopping in Italy

My fiance and I spent months planning our dream trip to Italy for spring 2023. After what felt like forever, the day finally arrived—I was beyond excited to visit one of my top bucket-list destinations! The thought of stepping foot in Europe again, this time with my best friend, felt surreal.


But as soon as we landed in Italy, reality hit—hard. The exhaustion from our journey was nothing compared to the sinking feeling when I realized my luggage hadn’t arrived. Tracking apps showed my bags were still two countries behind! After an hour of back-and-forth with the airline, there was no trace of them in the system.


We took a train into Rome’s city center, luggage-less but determined not to let it ruin our adventure. Thankfully, I always pack a spare outfit and bathroom necessities in my personal items, so we made it through the first night. The next day, we went shopping in our well-worn travel clothes, and let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like slipping into a fresh outfit after a long journey!


At the end of the trip, we gathered all our receipts, photos, and paperwork, submitted our claim, and—surprisingly—the airline reimbursed us for everything!!! And that’s how the airline paid me to shop my way through Italy.
